Commissioning Testing of BWMS
INDICATIVE BALLAST WATER ANALYSIS FOR COMMISSIONING TESTING OF BWMS ON BOARD.
Invasive aquatic species are a major threat to marine ecosystems. For this reason, global standards have been set for the protection of the marine environment in shipping so that ballast water of ships travelling at sea and over 400gt can be properly managed.
At SpectrumLabs we apply detailed ballast water management procedures, for marine inspections and indicative analyses according to the World Maritime Organization (IMO) D-2 standard determines viable organism concentration limits by MEPC 75, BWM.2/Circ.70/Rev.1 for the commissioning of ballast water treatment systems.
The ballast water parameters for the International Maritime Organization (IMO) D-2 standard analyzed by SpectrumLabs are as follows:
- Viable organisms ≥ 50 μm,
- Viable organisms ≥10μm – <50μm
- Enumeration of total Bacteria
- Escherichia coli
- Enterococci
- Vibrio cholerae
- HPC
- TRO (Total Residual Oxidant)
- Ultraviolet (UV) – Transmittance
- Conductivity
- Salinity
- pH
In case of non-compliance with the required IMO D-2 standard, detailed analyses are performed.
SpectrumLabs cooperates and is certified for the methods of sampling and indicative analysis for commissioning testing on board of ballast water management systems by the following classification societies:
- American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)
- BUREAU VERITAS
- DNV
- Korean Register
- Lloyd’s Register
- NIPPON KAIJI KYOKAI (ClassNK)
